Bosnia's Serb Leader Dodik Avoids Prison Term as Elections Loom
Bosnia-Herzegovina's top court said ethnic Serb leader Milorad Dodik can pay a fine instead of serving a year in prison for defying orders stemming from the peace deal that ended the Balkan country's civil war three decades ago.
The decision was requested by Dodik, who's struggling to retain his job as president of Republika Srpska — one of two ethnic entities that make up the war-scarred nation. Another court had sentenced him to prison time earlier this month, also banning him from public office for six years.
